Reflexology is a science it is a popular and relaxing holistic treatment that deals with the principle that there are reflex areas in the feet and hands, which correspond to all of the glands, organs and parts of the body. Reflexology is a unique method of using the thumb and fingers on these reflex areas.

Since approximately 75% of today's diseases are attributable to stress and tension, various body systems are affected in different ways and to varying degrees.

In order to keep the body at a normal balance, it is imperative that the blood and nerve supply to every organ and gland be at a maximum. The organs and glands contribute to the overall well being of the body. Tension in the body puts pressure on vital nerves, reducing the flow of oxygen-rich blood and nutrients to the body.

Overactive or underactive glands or organs can be helped to return to a normal function level through reflexology. Once a normal condition is achieved, it cannot be unbalanced by working the area too much. Overworking can cause some minor reactions such as diarrhoea or a runny nose. These reactions are through the body cleansing itself. Reflexology cannot harm, it simply brings the body back into balance.

Reflexology History:
The Chinese are said to have used an early form of reflexology more than 5,000 years ago in their use of pressure therapies. Egyptian tomb artwork dating from around 2000 BC shows foot massage, which is an indication that the benefits of working on the feet to encourage general good health have been acknowledged for some time. Eunice Ingham developed foot Reflexology; she carefully mapped out the anatomy of the body on the feet and created the first ever foot charts.

What happens during a reflexology treatment?
As it’s just your feet that are being worked on, you remain fully clothed; simply removing socks and shoes. A Reflexology treatment will last for approximately an hour. The routine begins with a full client consultation, where a full medical history is taken.  There will be an examination of the feet and your feet will be cleansed at the start of the treatment, followed by a variety of reflexology techniques, techniques before the practitioner walks with the thumbs and fingers over all of the reflexes. Adapted to suit your individual needs. If a reflex is imbalanced, the Practitioner may feel crystal-like deposits under the skin.

How many treatments do I need?
For maintenance of health, treatments are recommended once or twice per month (more if desired). For more serious health problems, treatments can be done much more frequently.

Reflexology is great for improving blood circulation and the nervous system, which are vital for organs to work effectively. Blood transports nutrients around the body and removes waste.
